My name is Eric Oduro. I am a humble, hardworking gentleman. I am currently in my third year of undergraduate studies in Doctor of Optometry at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi. I aspire to be an optometrist of great expertise, well-equipped with the know-how of the field, and acquire great leadership and managerial skills in order to have a more meaningful and effective impact on my community, my country, and the world at large. I like to try out new experiences even if they are out of my scope of study, and this is exhibited in my hobbies and extracurricular activities including volunteering, shepherding, and being a member of the Editorial Board at APOSA-KNUST; listening to music; and also being a member of Perfect Vision and Doctors Network. The inhabitants of Asante Akim Odumase are faced with a lot of challenges, one of which is the fact that they must travel several miles away just to receive eye treatment. This was one of the reasons that influenced my decision to pursue a career in optometry to help my fellow natives with knowledge gained after school. As part of the prepping, I have developed a love for volunteering and also improving my clinical skills through internships. The Eleos Cares Foundation has impacted my life and the life of my family by easing up the burdens of my parents, giving me hope that my dream of completing school, becoming a great optometrist, and establishing an eyecare center in my community is not a farfetched idea. I am excited about the opportunities that the Eleos Scholarship will provide, and I am grateful for this opportunity, and I look forward to using this support to further my education and achieve my goals.
